The Cure for a stammer

I remember thinking to myself when I was teenager, is there a cure for stammering? By the age of fourteen, I had been stammering for ten years and despite regularly attending speech therapy classes, I had seemingly become even worse.

 

I could not face the prospect of possibly having the speech impediment for the rest of my life but where was I supposed to look in my search for this stammering cure? I went to the library, I even went to see the doctor, he recommended more speech therapy!

 

I am now thirty-two years of age and this of course was eighteen years ago, before the internet was around. The world wide web has made searching for answers to things like health problems so much easier.

 

A quick search on one of the major search engines such as Yahoo or Google for stuttering therapy, stuttering treatment, stuttering information, stammering, stammering therapy or cure for stammering, helps people to find a whole host of potential options.

 

 

I of course did not have the internet to search, the only option I seemed to have was speech therapy. I will never forget one particular day when I was aged seventeen. I went to see my local speech therapist, I asked him the question, is there a cure for a stammer/stutter? His reply was NO!

 

I returned home very upset, but then started to think some more. So how come I do not stutter when I am just talking to myself? How come I can talk fluently when I am drunk?

 

I did not believe what this negative speech therapist had told me and was determined that one day I would be able to stop stammering. That day came five years later.
