The credit card organisations MasterCard International and Visa International have initiated programmes like MasterCard Site Data Protection (SDP) and Visa Account Information Security (AIS) in order to further improve the security of card data processing and storage on credit card processing payment systems.

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI) takes over from previous independent Security Standards.
